former GOP governor endorses BO

“An element of their party has pitched so far to the extreme right on issues important to women, immigrants, seniors and students that they’ve proven incapable of governing for the people,” Mr. Crist wrote in a Sunday op-ed in the Tampa Bay Times. “The truth is that the party has failed to demonstrate the kind of leadership or seriousness voters deserve.”

You know times are rough when even Republicans don't want to be associated with this party. True, the Tea Partiers are pushing Republicans back to a simpler time, but by "simpler", they mean back to a time that was uneducated and grossly uninformed. Back to when women's rights or multiculturalism wasn't important or even existent. I have no idea how they feel they can remain relevant or be the voice of a people to the country, especially one that boasts one of the most diverse populations in the world and a country that lead the charge in the women's rights movement. Thankfully, the GOP has signed their own death warrant and has made themselves a very real non-threat.

Kudos to Charlie Crist and a small victory in defection!

Three Jerks Make a Masterpiece

The Beastie Boys were a big part formative years and well on to my adult ones. To this day their songs have amazing specific memories attached to them. Mostly being a teenager, mostly in someone's backyard while we ran around like life couldn't get any better. I preferred punk and indie and was a snob about rap, but even I couldn't deny their jams were necessary and important and loved them with all my heart.

Adam Yauch and his scratchy voice was my favourite Beastie.

I won't even attempt a written piece about what this loss means - in personal, musical or humanitarian terms - so here are some tributes from people who phrased it much better than I could have:

PEACE, ADAM

The Nation: The Gritty Legacy Of Adam Yauch

Generation Yauch

How Adam Yauch Grew Into His Voice

My beloved Mets played tribute, by strolling to the plate to an all-Beastie Boys lineup:

David Wright, Brass Monkey
Ruben Tejada, Intergalactic
Daniel Murphy, No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn
Lucas Duda, The New Style
Scott Hairston, Root Down
Ike Davis, Fight For Your Right (To Party)
Andres Torres, So What'cha Want
Josh Thole, Make Some Noise
Dillon Gee, Body Movin'
Vinny Rottino, Paul Revere

Amazing example of their never ending little kid antics, irreverence, and humour.

Finally, how could you not fall madly in love with someone who came up this rhyme:

"I want to say a little something that's long overdue, the disrespect to women has got to be through. To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends, I wanna offer my love and respect till the end."

Here's to growing up.
